Royal Docks to welcome major new cultural venue Ironworks
A major new venue, Ironworks, will launch in the Royal Docks this October, bringing a series of large-scale events to a landmark industrial waterfront setting and adding to the area’s growing cultural offer.
Developed by LWE in partnership with placemaking organisation PROJEKT, Ironworks forms part of the wider Thames Wharf site in the Royal Docks. The venue will span a 7,000-capacity warehouse space alongside an open-air terrace overlooking the Thames, offering striking views across London’s skyline and reinforcing the Royal Docks’ growing reputation as a destination for major cultural experiences.
The launch of Ironworks reflects the wider transformation taking place across the Royal Docks, where historic industrial buildings and waterfront sites are being reimagined for culture, creativity and new public uses - including the Factory, Silver Building, Pump House and more - while retaining connections to the area’s heritage. Once a driving force behind London's trade and industry, the Royal Docks is increasingly establishing itself as London's new cultural engine.
With six shows planned, Ironworks will offer a rare opportunity to experience some of electronic music’s most in-demand artists, enhanced by world-class sound, lighting and visual production to create immersive shows. As part of this, the Museum of Youth Culture will install a visual exhibition exploring London’s warehouse scene, bringing its stories and spirit into the space.
For LWE, the project is a return to its roots in London’s warehouse culture. Over the past two decades, they have delivered landmark events at Turnmills, Great Suffolk Street and Tobacco Dock, and played a defining role in the creation of Printworks London.
The site has deep historical roots. Once home to the Thames Ironworks and shipbuilding yards, it was defined by large-scale production and collective effort. Today, that same sense of scale and shared energy continues to shape Ironworks, with the venue developed around the building’s architecture to deliver high-impact shows while preserving its character and legacy.
Alongside the physical transformation, Ironworks has been shaped by a strong commitment to its local community. The project is working with local networks, independent businesses and creative communities - offering dedicated ticket access for residents, opportunities for independent food traders, and employment linked to both the launch and ongoing programme.
Creative collaborators have been drawn from independent London-based collectives, ensuring an approach that is grounded in the city and shaped by its people.
Ironworks will launch in October 2026 with full line-up details to be announced in June.
