The people and sectors flourishing in the Royal Docks

The building of the Royal Docks in the mid 1800s introduced a new world of commerce to the capital, drawing people and produce from all over the world. Today, the area continues as an important economic centre for London, with industry giants such as Tate & Lyle, ExCeL, London City Airport, and the University of East London.

These have recently been joined by a community of new startups and SMEs who are making huge strides in fashion, set design and art – including Glastonbury stalwarts Block 9, who specialise in radical and immersive set design, and Craig Green, one of the UK’s leading contemporary menswear designers.

The Royal Docks is also driving innovation across other key sectors including advanced urban services, business and leisure tourism, automotive, digital and tech industries, and cultural and creative production.

The Royal Docks is the anchor for a new creative community in the Thames Estuary Production Corridor, and leading the way in workspace design.
