Improving Black Health Summit 2026
Join us for the Improving Black Health Summit 2026, a powerful community event organised by Cllr Thelma Odoi as part of Black History Month 2026, exploring the theme “Honouring our Communities.”
This year’s summit will shine a spotlight on some of the most pressing health inequalities affecting Black communities, with a particular focus on mental health inequalities and the disproportionate experiences and outcomes faced by Black men.
Together, we will reflect on the progress that has been made, examine the challenges that remain and explore the urgent action needed to help close the health gap.
What will we explore?
Through insightful talks, panel discussions and community voices, we’ll explore:
- The mental health inequalities experienced by Black men
- Why disparities in health outcomes continue to exist
- Barriers to accessing and experiencing effective mental healthcare
- The contribution of Black men to health, medicine and healthcare
- Stories of leadership, resilience, advocacy and community care
- The importance of cultural identity, heritage and community
- What individuals, communities, healthcare organisations and policymakers can do to drive meaningful change
The event aims to create an open, honest and meaningful conversation with residents of Newham and beyond about the health inequalities affecting Black men — particularly in relation to mental health — and the practical steps that can be taken to address them.
