Island Futures Learning Day
Island Futures is a free event hosted by Material Cultures at Tipping Point East. It explores everyday materials - such as clay, sugar, timber, and banana plants - and the colonial trade networks that connected the UK and the Caribbean. The event reflects on how these plants and minerals have shaped our world, from the food we eat to the buildings we inhabit.
Throughout the day you can expect workshops on clay plastering, vessel making, writing, building and weaving; mini talks, grounding and reflections on the alternative use of these plants and minerals. You will work with experienced workshop leaders, fellow participants, and the Material Cultures team.
