Presence by Marcus Lyall

UPDATE 19/12/2020: We are very sorry to announce the CANCELLATION of Marcus Lyall’s installation ‘Presence’ in the Royal Docks. We know this will disappoint many, however with London being placed into new Tier 4 restrictions, it is important that everyone follows the guidance and stays-at-home as much as possible.

Immerse yourself in light and sound as artist Marcus Lyall presents ‘Presence’, an outdoor, interactive laser and sound installation that reacts to visitor voices.

Presence will be installed in a derelict area between the concrete columns underneath Silvertown Way in London’s Royal Docks. Discover the installation by going to the pedestrian underpass by Expressway, 1 Dock Road, Royal Docks, E16 1AG. You can also watch this amazing installation online via livestream.

The work transforms this cavernous space into an immense illuminated ‘echo chamber’ filled by the laser light travelling through it. It responds uniquely to each sound and voice presented to it. Visitors are invited to engage with the work, activating it by using their voices by singing, shouting or speaking into the void. These sounds are then amplified, reverberated, distorted and echoed as they travel through the space.

See the work every evening between 5-9pm throughout 16 – 20 December.

London-based artist Marcus Lyall grew up in a house steeped in architecture, science fiction and hobby electronics and his work focuses around these forms, whilst also incorporating light, visuals, sound, lasers and images to transform underused places. Previous commissions include ‘On Your Wavelength’ a site-specific installation in Canary Wharf that mapped human brain waves in light, and music and ‘Scream the House Down’, where participants were invited to vocalise their inner frustrations to illuminate a four storey office building in London Bridge.

Whether you will be visiting in person or online, this is an installation you definitely won’t want to miss!
